If so, Maliyo’s Games Art Training Program is looking for mentors like you! In this article, we’ll take a look at the highlights of the program and provide information on how you can get involved as a mentor.
Maliyo’s Game Art Training Program is a 3-month initiative designed to train aspiring game artists and create a talent pipeline for the rapidly growing games industry in Africa. Building upon the success of our GameUp Africa game development program, the art program aims to enhance creative quality in local game production, upskill African artists in game development techniques and principles, and establish a sustainable ecosystem for game development in the continent.
The Art program commenced on 29th May 2023 and is currently in the learning phase, where participants are undergoing virtual training to acquire skills in concept art, 2D and 3D art creation for games. This phase is equipping them with the necessary foundation to excel in the subsequent project phase.
Highlights of the Learning Phase
During the learning phase, participants have been immersed in a comprehensive virtual training curriculum tailored to their needs as aspiring game artists. Some of the key highlights include:
- Concept Art: Participants have gained valuable insights into the process of creating captivating visual designs, establishing the foundation for game art development.
- 2D and 3D Art Creation: Through hands-on exercises and practical projects, participants have honed their skills in producing stunning 2D and 3D assets for games, such as character designs, environment art, and UI/UX elements.
- Industry Insights: Renowned experts from the games industry have shared their knowledge, providing participants with real-world perspectives and invaluable guidance on building a successful career in game art.
The project phase of Maliyo’s Game Art Training Program marks a significant milestone for the participants. Having completed the learning phase, where they acquire foundational skills in concept art, 2D and 3D art creation, the project phase is where participants will put their newfound knowledge into practice.
During the project phase, mentors play a vital role in guiding and supporting the participants as they embark on creating their art portfolios.
