Maliyo Games Returns to Lagos Games Week 2025

There’s something electric about Lagos Games Week.

It’s not just the buzzing crowds, the neon-lit controllers, or the smell of fresh popcorn in the air.

It’s the feeling that the Nigerian games industry once overlooked, now unstoppable is writing a new story. And Maliyo Games is right in the middle of it.

We’re proud to announce that we’ll be returning to Lagos Games Week in 2025, and this time, we’re going even bigger:
🎮 A high-energy exhibition booth
🎤 A keynote from our CEO, Hugo Obi
🏆 Sponsorship of the Pitching Contest with a ₦1 million prize pot

But before we dive into all that, let’s rewind a bit…

Lagos Games Week: More Than a Convention

When Lagos Games Week launched in 2022, it was an ambitious idea: bring Nigeria’s scattered but passionate game creators under one roof to showcase, collaborate, and inspire.

Fast-forward to 2025, and it’s one of the most exciting events on the continent. It is not just for gamers and developers, but for investors, publishers, tech founders, and educators who now realise: Africa’s game dev scene is the next frontier.

Maliyo Games was there last year, and we saw it firsthand.
The energy. The ideas. The raw talent.
It was more than a meetup — it was a launchpad.

So This Year? We’re Back. And We’re Raising the Stakes.

A Booth Where Africa’s Stories Come to Life

This year, our exhibition space at Balmoral Convention Centre will be more interactive than ever.

You’ll get hands-on with Maliyo titles like:

  • Safari City – our city-builder with local flavour

Come play. Come chat. Come vibe with our devs.

The Keynote: Hugo Obi on Building Africa’s Games Industry

On Friday morning (June 20), Maliyo Games Founder & CEO Hugo Obi will take the main stage.

His topic would be “The State of the Nigerian & African Games Industry”

Hugo’s going deep into:

  • Why Nigerian devs need to own more IP
  • How we can build an industry worth $100M+
  • And what it really takes to make games that go global but feel local

If you care about games, growth, and Africa’s creative economy, this is one not to miss.

Pitch. Win. Launch.

We’re not just showing up. We’re investing in the future.

On Thursday, June 19, Maliyo Games is sponsoring the official LGW Pitching Contest. This will be hosted at Xbox on Glover Road, Ikoyi.

Here’s the deal:

  • 5 finalists.
  • 1 stage.
  • Live pitches.
  • And a chance to win ₦1 million to bring their prototype to life.

The room will be full of publishers, platforms, and partners looking for the next big thing.

This isn’t just a trophy moment. It’s a launch moment.

And Maliyo is proud to back it.

Why We’re Doing This

Because this is personal.

We started Maliyo Games with one mission: to showcase African stories through gaming.

That means more than making games. It means building a real ecosystem. One that gives creators access, mentorship, funding, and visibility.

Lagos Games Week isn’t just a yearly event on the calendar. It’s part of the infrastructure we need to grow the industry, not in pockets, but together.

By exhibiting, speaking, and sponsoring the pitch contest, we’re helping to build that scaffolding; one developer at a time.
